NC Wesleyan Receives State Grant for Pearsall Library Rocky Mount, NCThe State Library of North Carolina has awarded a matching grant to North Carolina Wesleyan College for $49,065 for the Colleges Elizabeth Braswell Pearsall Library. Funds from this matching grant will be used to upgrade the librarys automation system that provides cataloging, circulation, an online public access catalog (OPAC), and associated statistics maintenance and reporting functions. The system would provide for future expansion to include acquisitions and serials management. This will provide an online catalog that can be accessed via the internet which the College does not currently have. Students can check on the books theyve checked out, to determine the due date, learn if they have a fine, and request renewals. Importantly, it also makes it possible for students and faculty off-campus to see what resources are available and to request material. Before it was not possible for them to check to see if the books were in without coming into the library or to even determine what titles the library owns on a particular subject. It is the ultimate goals of the library to have a fully integrated automation system with modules for all library functions. This would include links between functions that are seamless and transparent to the user, all transactions would occur in real time, data would be entered once for operations within multiple applications, and actions completed in one function would inform or create other functions. The development staff invites donors who have a special interest in libraries and who might wish to help the College meet the match through private donations. For more information about making a donation to the library please contact Linda Stallone, 252-985-5146. This project is 50 percent supported with federal LSTA funds made possible through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources. North Carolina Wesleyan is an independent, four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The College offers bachelors degrees in 22 majors to traditional-aged students on the Rocky Mount campus. NC Wesleyan also offers an adult degree program geared to working adults, with classes in Rocky Mount, and at additional teaching sites in Raleigh, Durham/RTP , and Goldsboro. # # # |
