June 8, 1998 Math Contest at NCWC
Rocky Mount, NC—On May 6, 110 students from eastern North Carolina attended the State Finals Mathematics Contest at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Students invited to this level of competition had already competed in regional competitions across the state and had performed in the top ten percent of all participants. The State Finals competition is used to recognize the best students in the state of North Carolina in the subjects of Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II. John Compton, from Edwards Junior High, placed 7th in Algebra I. Other local students invited to participate in this year’s contest were: Maria Phelps, Faith Christian School; Matthew Cook, Northern Nash Senior High; Matthew Alston, Rocky Mount Academy; Lee Hyde and Ann Warren, Southwest Edgecombe High School; and Landin Fisher, Tarboro High School. # # # |
