Roanoke Rapids High School Art Exhibit: the students of Tina Gregory at the Mims Gallery Rocky Mount, NCThe Mims Gallery at NC Wesleyan College is proud to host an exhibition of sculptural and painted furniture, color reduction block prints of animals, Duck Stamp paintings, and other wonderful art investigations by the students of Tina Gregory at Roanoke Rapids High School. Gregory's art classes are indeed fortunate to have the direction of such a gifted teacher who takes them beyond technique and plunges them into expressive critical thinking in their visual media. In 1997 Tina Gregory gained her National Board Certification as a teacher. Gregory has her undergraduate degree from UNC Greensboro, masters of art from the prestigious Breadloaf School at Middlebury College in Vermont, and her bachelor of fine arts degree from State University of New York at New Paltz. She has taught art at other schools in North Carolina, Georgia, and New York State. About her teaching strategies at Roanoke Rapids explains the importance of combining art process with critical thinking. For instance, the selection of Duck Stamp paintings on exhibit represents not only a popular hunting subject for Roanoke Rapids students but a door to the study of wildlife ecology. She credits Commissioner John Ellis in the Raleigh Division of the State of North Carolina Wildlife Commission for his support and sponsorship of the Junior Duck Stamp Program. Gregory has taught art at Roanoke Rapids High School since 1992. She, her husband Tom, and two daughters have lived in Halifax since 1983 where they share the duties of the familys Christmas Tree Farm. Tina Gregory lends her special artistic talents to wreath designs during the holiday season. The exhibition is in the Mims Gallery at the Dunn Center of the North Carolina Wesleyan College Campus in Rocky Mount. It will continue until the end of August. Daily hours are 9 -5, Monday through Friday. Phone (252) 985-5197 for details.
