May 13 Commencement for NC Wesleyan College Rocky Mount, NC North Carolina Wesleyan College will hold May commencement exercises on Saturday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m., on the lawn in front of the Braswell Administration Building. A total of 232 students are eligible to participate. Of these students eligible to graduate, 95 are traditional students, and 137 are adult students from the Colleges four Adult Degree Program sites in Rocky Mount, Raleigh, Durham/RTP, and Goldsboro. This number is in addition to the 214 students the College graduated in December. A concert of live music will start at 10 a.m. before the commencement exercises begin. A reception under the pines will be held following the commencement. The two commencement speakers are Kyle Patrick Foster, senior class president of traditional students, and Sherry A. Goldman, from the Rocky Mount adult degree program (ADP). The faculty marshal will be Dr. Richard L. Watson III, history professor with the College for 27 years. Student marshals include head student marshal Norm Crumpacker, with the adult degree program in Goldsboro; Deborah Powers Dickens, with the adult degree program in Rocky Mount; Laura K. Hilbert, with the traditional program, and Dikran Kabbendjian, with the adult degree program in Raleigh. Roger G. Taylor, class of 1970, and a member of the Board of Trustees, will conduct the induction of the graduates into the alumni association. President John White will recognize retiring English Professor Leverett T. Smith, Jr., who will become a professor emeritus of the College. Commencement exercises are preceded by a baccalaureate service Friday evening, May 12. Dr. Mae Parker, a Wesleyan graduate and pastor of Word in Action Ministries in Weldon, will be the speaker for the service at 7:30 p.m. in the Leon Russell Chapel. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Dunn Center. The decision on whether to hold commencement outside or inside will be made by noon on Friday, May 12. If the ceremony is held in the Dunn Center, seating will be limited. North Carolina Wesleyan is an independent, four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The College offers bachelors degrees in 22 majors to traditional-aged students on the Rocky Mount campus. NC Wesleyan also offers an Adult Degree Program geared to help working adults finish their bachelors degrees in several disciplines, with classes in Rocky Mount, and at additional teaching sites in Raleigh, Goldsboro, and Durham. The College is also planning to introduce a new accelerated degree in computer information systems and also an accelerated master of business administration program in the fall 2000 to the adult students in the Triangle area. # # #
