Professor Gall Holds Jewelry Sale at Bookstore April 14 Rocky Mount, NC Asst Professor of Physical Science and curator of the NCWC Collection of Pre-Columbian Art Dan Gall will hold a jewelry/macrame demonstration and sale in the NC Wesleyan Bookstore, Friday, April 14. He will be demonstrating between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. The Bookstore is closed from 1-2 for lunch. The majority of Galls jewelry are one-of-a-kind pieces. He uses sterling silver and gemstones and also macrame for his jewelry. Gall says he buys his raw materials in bulk and therefore can afford to sell his jewelry at below retail prices. "Im an archeologist and geologist, and I taught Gems and Precious Metals during last J-term. The jewelry-making is a craft thing I do, as a cottage industry." He makes a variety of necklaces, bracelets, ankle bracelets, key chains, custom-made rosaries, and rebuilds and repairs rosaries. He started making jewelry in the 60s as a bead thing, and that has evolved into more complicated jewelry over the years. Originally he made jewelry in the old traditions, as it has been made for 1000s of years. He said the Maya would show him how to make things when he was working in the woods. On April 29 Gall will be doing demonstrations at Wellspring Grocery on Wade Avenue in Raleigh. # # # |
