"Chocolate on the Outside" Plays at NC Wesleyan

Rocky Mount, NC–"Chocolate on the Outside" will be performed Wednesday, February 9, at 7:30 p.m., in the Minges Auditorium of the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts at North Carolina Wesleyan College. Tickets are available at the Belk Box Office, (252) 985-5197. General admission is $5.00. "Chocolate on the Outside" is the story of four African-American professionals assembled high in the Appalachians with other co-workers for a corporate team building retreat. The only African-Americans in the group, they become separated from their colleagues.

"Chocolate on the Outside" was written by April Turner, a Charlottean who also directs and performs in the production. At the mercy of the natural elements, the four African-Americans, who represent a broad spectrum of the black community, have the task of facing each other at last. While they intend to deal with their anger at being separated from their colleagues, they end up dealing with issues such as African-American hair, skin color, and office politics. The dramatic play takes a fresh look at intra-racial issues among African-Americans.

The play is one of several events held at North Carolina Wesleyan College during February to observe Black History Month. It is open to the public, with general admission seats for $5.
