NC Wesleyan Colloquium Feb. 28: Earthwatch Experience in Ecuador, Following NC Migratory Songbirds Rocky Mount, NCThe public is invited to the North Carolina Wesleyan College Fourth Monday Colloquium, Monday, February 28, at 11:30 a.m., in the Powers Recital Hall in the Dunn Center. Dr. Marshall Brooks will talk about his experiences banding birds in Ecuador for research during his recent sabbatical. The event is free and open to the public. Brooks was part of a six-person Earthwatch team tracking both birds native to Ecuador and neotropical migrating songbirds, some of which summer in the North Carolina area. As a volunteer, he paid to participate in the Earthwatch research. The money supports the research being conducted. The head of his team was from University of Kansas. Their research took place in three different types of terrain: primary forest, secondary forest, and in a disturbed area, like old homestead. Although the area was only about 20 miles from the coast, they were at an altitude of 4000 feet, quite a vertical rise from sea level. Come join Dr. Brooks for a fascinating lecture and slide presentation. # # # |
