| January 21, 2000 Colleagues,
| January 26, 2000 A campus memorial
service will be held Friday, February 4 at 2:15 pm in the Leon Russell Chapel on campus.
Dr. Flowers' funeral was held on Sunday, January 22 in Faison, NC. |
It is my very sad task to pass along to you information just given me by Rick Watson
and David Jones. Linda Flowers passed away this morning, and thereby her terrible
suffering of the last weeks and months came to an end. Funeral arrangements have not yet
been made, but the funeral service will undoubtedly be in Faison, NC, on Monday or
Tuesday. I will inform you regarding the arrangements as I have more information.
Linda loved the College and her profession. She also valued greatly her colleagues and
her interactions with them. She contributed greatly to the life of the College community
through her various roles, including Professor of English, Jefferson-Pilot Professor,
Director of the Visiting Writers Series, Department Chair, Director of the 1990 Self
Study, author, and many others. Her last very significant contribution to the academic
community was the writing and editing of the excellent new Faculty Handbook which will be
distributed to the faculty in the next couple of weeks.
As we mourn for our lost colleague, let's also celebrate our association with Linda and
her many lasting contributions.
