North Carolina Wesleyan College Adult Learning Site Opens in Durham Aug. 17, Classes Begin Aug. 24
Rocky Mount, NC - North Carolina Wesleyan College announces the opening of a new classroom facility in Durham, near the Research Triangle Park. Located at the corner of Miami Boulevard and Alexander Drive, this site will compliment NCWC’s existing course offerings in Raleigh, designed to serve the needs of working adults who seek a bachelor’s degree.
"From our Raleigh locations, North Carolina Wesleyan has been helping working adults in the Triangle earn their college degrees for almost 20 years," said NC Wesleyan President John White. "The success of our program leads us to open the Durham site for the convenience of our many students there. We are responding to the demand for such programs by adult learners and their employers."
At the Durham site, the B.S. in Business Administration will initially be offered, with other programs to be added within the next year. Designed to meet the needs of working adult learners, most classes will be offered on an accelerated, facilitated learning format, known as ADVANTAGE. This learning format is based on the facilitation of applied knowledge involving students in participatory activities, group discussions, written exercises, projects and presentations. ADVANTAGE classes are offered on five- and eight-week sessions with one four-hour evening class per week.
The fall semester at the new Durham site includes three sessions. Students can register for one session or all three at the same time. During the first session, there will be classes offered in accelerated five- and eight-week formats, and also in the non-accelerated, twelve-week format. Of the four five-week courses available during the first session, all held between 6-10 p.m. from August 24 to September 26, Legal Environments, and Operations Management, are offered Wednesdays; Business Communications is offered Thursdays; and Professional & Business Ethics is held on Tuesdays. Of the two eight-week courses, also held between 6-10 p.m. from August 24 to October 17, Macro Economics is on Mondays and Math for Business is offered Tuesdays. Two twelve-week, non-accelerated courses are also offered during the first session, lasting from September 8 to December 7. These include English Composition I, to be announced, and Intermediate Algebra, to be held from 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays. For a complete schedule of classes, call 851-2130. Open registration starts August 3 and continues until the week before that academic session.
Since 1979, NCWC has offered undergraduate classes in Raleigh. Programs currently offered include the B.S. in Business Administration, B.S. in Computer Information Systems, B.S. in Accounting, and B.A. in Justice Studies. All courses qualify for most employer tuition reimbursement programs. Non-credit courses of the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist Program are also offered.
North Carolina Wesleyan is an independent, four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The College offers bachelor’s degrees in 22 majors to traditional-aged students on the Rocky Mount campus. NC Wesleyan also offers an adult degree program geared to working adults, with classes in Rocky Mount, and at additional teaching sites in Raleigh, Goldsboro, and, in August, Durham.
Classes at the new Durham location will begin August 24. The grand opening of NCWC-Durham is scheduled for September 9. For more information about fall semester classes in either the Durham or Raleigh locations, or to learn how to begin your degree, call 851-2130.
